Arlington Martin Surprises Euless Trinity

Four times in the last five years, Arlington Martin’s football season ended in a playoff loss to Euless Trinity.
On Saturday afternoon, in conditions made difficult by howling wind, Martin finally decided enough was enough.

The Warriors beat Trinity at its own game with better execution of fundamentals in a 19-7 victory in front of a packed house of 12,500 at Pennington Field.

Martin (12-1) advances to the Class 5A Division I Region I title game against Southlake Carroll 6 p.m. Saturday December 3 at SMUs Ford Stadium.  Box Score

Big12 On Life Support - Blame BOTH Texas and A&M;

The third oldest rivalry in college football is done.  University of Texas greed and arrogance combined with  aggie thinking and the A&M inferiority complex has rendered the final FBS college football weekend irrelevant in the state of Texas.

The series began in 1894.  The 1921 game between the University of Texas and the aggies is believed to be the first ever live, play-by-play broadcast of a college football game.

Auburn/Alabama, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State, Ohio State/Michigan, Georgia/Georgia Tech, Florida/Florida State, Clemson/South Carolina, Virginia/Virginia Tech, Oregon/Oregon State, USC/UCLA, Washington/Washington State will share the spotlight on the final regular season weekend for the foreseeable future.  Texas/TCU not so much.

In the last two years Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Texas A&M have departed the Big12 Conference.  TCU and West Virginia have accepted invitations to replace them, TCU taking over the aggies Conference Schedule.  The Big12 barely has ten members now (West Virginia may not join for two years pending litigation).

The big losers are the Big12 Conference, college football fans in the state of Texas and the biggest loser in Texas, the aggies of College Station.  The aggies left because they were tired of living in the shadow of the University of Texas.  Cant really blame them for feeling inferior.  The aggies have lost 76 games and won only 36 times vs Texas.

Now the aggies will dwell in the celler of the SEC.  Aggies wont have Baylor, Kansas, Iowa State to kick around anymore. Auburn, Alabama and Louisiana replace those team on the aggie schedule. Good luck with all that aggie land.

Another game between Texas and Texas A&M will not happen until at least 2018, according to Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds. The 2011 game will marked the end of the 118-year Thanksgiving Day tradition.

Texas A&Ms official fight song bids adieu to the Longhorns with the line so long to the orange and white. But the aggies didnt really want to say goodbye.

Theyd hoped to continue the game, which began in 1894 and has been played every year since 1915, but the Longhorns said their schedule is full through 2018.

Countless great players and games have populated this series. Former Texas A&M coach Paul Bear Bryants 1954 team, which survived his grueling camp in Junction, Texas, played the Longhorns.

Crow, A&Ms only Heisman winner, was a member of the first Aggie team to beat Texas at Memorial Stadium in 1956. It was against the Aggies in 1998 that the Longhorns Ricky Williams broke the Division I-A career rushing record in a 26-24 win.

Campbell had the best game of his Texas career against the Aggies when he ran for 222 yards and three touchdowns, and scored on a 60-yard pass in a 57-28 win by the Longhorns in 1977.

Justin Tucker kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Longhorns a 27-25 victory over Texas A&M on Thursday night to end the more than century-old rivalry.

Both the longhorns and the aggies have crippled the Big12 while lining their own pockets with TV cash.  F both of them. I hope neither team ever wins another football game because they BOTH destroyed the Southwest AND Big12 Conferences.

Texas HS Playoffs : Euless Trinity 28 - Allen 21

I attended the Euless Trinity vs Allen high school playoff game at Cowboys Stadium on Saturday.  Allen entered the game ranked 2nd in State 5A.  Euless Trinity was ranked 4th.  Trinity did it again. The Trojans downed Allen 28-21, in the area round of the 5A Division I playoffs for the second straight year.

Alex Miller gave Allen life early in the third quarter against Euless Trinity when he returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown to cut Allens deficit to five points.

But the replay, seen by everyone on the 60-yard-wide video board at Cowboys Stadium, showed that Miller let go of the ball just before crossing the goal line.

After the replay, the Trinity crowd erupted in boos.

Trinity dominated most of the game, gaining 528 total yards, while making 24 first downs.  Allen had 260 total yards with 13 first downs.

Running back Joel Kimpela led the way for Trinity, rushing for 357 yards and two touchdowns on 39 carries.

He was already over the 300-yard mark when he had to leave in the third quarter with an apparent injury to his right leg, but returned after Trinity’s defense stopped Morris and racked up 38 more yards as the Trojans put the game away.

Allen had a chance to tie the game with less than two minutes remaining, after Trinity had unsucessfully tried to make two 2-point conversions after scoring their first two touchdowns.

Luckily for the officials, the blown touch down call didnt impact the game as Trinity prevailed 28-21 after Safari Bolden, Chris Fonokalafi and Wawa Leota stuffed Allen quarterback Alec Morris on the 2-yard line on a fourth-and-goal near the end of the fourth quarter.

Luckily for the Euless Trinity head coach, the failed two point conversions didnt matter either.

Trinity will host Arlington Martin (the little Wolf graduated from Martin in 2001) noon on Saturday at Pennington Field.

Lee Corso "Ah Fuck It"

Yes, you did hear what you thought you heard at the end of College GameDay. Esteemed game picker Lee Corso gave up on trying to rile up the Houston Cougars crowd, discarding his SMU Mustangs horn and loosing an Ah, fuck it. Chris Fowler said, Glad theres a delay, adding, wash your mouth out, but yeah, there wasnt a delay. Even Carl Lewis was delighted!

Heres the very important video [Later, Corso apologized on air, though were not sure why a man would apologize for making millions of people so happy]:

Why They Play The Games

At 10:50 p.m. Friday night, Jeff Woody punctuated the greatest victory in Iowa State football history with a 4-yard touchdown run.

Two Oklahoma State defenders were clinging to the sophomore running back, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Woody from lunging across the goal line – giving the Cyclones a 37-31, double-overtime triumph over the nation’s second-rank team.

Until that moment, Iowa State had been 0-56-2 when facing a top-six opponent, according the the weekly Associated Press poll.

Suddenly, the Cyclones (6-4) are bowl eligible, and the Cowboys (10-1) are no longer in the running for the Bowl Championship Series title game.

The Cyclones (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) overcame a 17-point deficit to beat the Cowboys (10-1, 7-1 Big 12), who were just a win away from a showdown with rival Oklahoma for a likely spot in the BCS title game.

Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weedens first pass in the second overtime was intercepted by Leonard Johnson. Woody then bullied his way into the end zone to give the Cyclones their first victory over a top-five opponent in school history.
