Looks Like Somebody Picked the Wrong Girl

Ladies, dont become victims. The progressive propaganda machine is putting your lives at risk.

If you can drive a car, you can learn to run a gun safely.  Running a gun safely does not require above average intelligence or motor skills. Get training.  Get a gun.  Go to practice at a local range.

A .22 rim fire pistol is great for learning the basics. You can shoot hundreds of rounds inexpensively.  I dont recommend a .22 as the best self defense firearm but nobody wants to be shot by one. A .22 is better than no gun and all.  Just pointing a gun at a home invader could save your life or prevent you from being sexually assaulted.

In 1981 Hinckley attempted to assassinate President Reagan with a 22.  One shot in the stomach dropped a secret service agent like a rock. One shot to the back of the neck dropped a police officer like a rock. Neither got up. One shot hit James Brady in the head, dropped him too. Did not get up. One bullet RICOCHETED off the car and hit Reagan on the left side under his arm in the chest. It hit a rib and went almost completely through his lung. The underestimated .22 can work for self defense and home protection.

While the .22 LR is essentially the bottom floor or last resort in caliber choice for self-defense, the compact nature of these handguns combined with low recoil and shootability could make it a viable choice for some. Everyone needs to own a .22 for practice because the ammo is so affordable.

We own a Ruger SR22 and shoot it regularly.  Its not our first choice for self defense but its an option, for both self and home defense as well as an excellent first gun purchase.

Feinstein Bill is an All Out Assault on Second Amendment

Gun Banning Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., introduced a bill Thursday to ban more than 150 specific semi-automatic weapons with military-style features. Tens of millions of other firearms would also be banned by the Bill under the military feature.

In addition to banning the manufacture, sale, transfer or importation of semi-automatic rifles and pistols that can accept detachable magazines and have at least one military feature, the legislation titled The Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 would ban magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition and place new security requirements on people who already own such weapons.

Semi-automatic rifles and handguns with fixed magazines capable of carrying more than 10 rounds, and all semi-automatic shotguns with folding or detachable stocks, pistol grips, forward grips or fixed magazines with room for more than five rounds qualifies as an assault weapon under the Bill.

The immediate result if the legislation is passed, will be the registration and taxation of millions of firearms owned by law abiding citizens. The guns would be transferred to the government for destruction upon the death of the registered owner.  The end game is confiscation of hundreds of millions of firearms owned by law abiding citizens in America.

Here is the list of named firearms. Thousands of additional models would also be banned under the Bill.

Ruger Introduces SR45 at 2013 SHOT Show

Ruger introduced its new Ruger SR45 at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Based on Ruger’s popular SR9 series, the SR45 is chambered in .45 ACP and comes with two 10-round magazines.

The SR45 features an ambidextrous manual safety and mag release, along with interchangeable backstraps and adjustable 3-dot sights for windage and elevation. The SR45 also features a Picatinny-style rail for mounting tactical lights or lasers. Available in either a stainless steel, brushed finish slide or an alloy, black nitrite slide, the SR45 is available with a price point of $529.

We are fans of the Ruger SR Series having shot both the full size SR9 and the compact SR40c, which is in my concealed carry rotation.

Is the .357sig the Best Concealed Carry Self Defense Caliber?

I converted my Sig P239 SAS from a .40 S&W caliber to a .357 Sig this summer.  My plumber, who happens to be one of the most knowledgeable gun guys who I have ever met, changed his EDC pistol to the Glock 33 .357 sub compact.

My EDC varied based on a number of factors. Lately Ive been carrying a S&W M&P Shield 9mm around my small town and a S&W 1911SC Series E .45ACP when I venture into the jungle (Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington). In the past I reguarly carried either my Glock 36 slimline .45ACP sub compact or a Ruger SR40c.  I still own all four and have no plans to sell any of them.  They are all great concealed carry pistols that I plan on keeping in the rotation.

Its October and change is in the air.  Hopefully we have seen the last of the days of temperatures in the 100s and 90s.  Today Im putting the Sig P239SAS into the rotation.  I purchased this fine pistol before I retired.  ICE in all their wisdom refused to approve it for duty carry.  Carrying pistols that ICE would not approve is one of the greatest pleasures of retirement!  None of the five pistols above were listed on the ICE/HSI approved list for either duty of off duty carry.

The .357 SIG cartridge was introduced in 1994. SIG executive Ted Rowe had noticed representatives of many departments, which were trading in their .357 Magnum revolvers for SIG auto loaders had appreciated the firepower and shoot ability of the SIGs, but didn’t think any auto pistol would equal the power of the 125-grain .357 Magnum hollow points they’d carried in the old six-shooters. Texas Highway Patrolmen spoke wistfully to Rowe about the “lightning bolt effect” the 125-grain Magnums, with nominal velocities of up to 1,450 fps, delivered on the street in their actual gunfights.

Rowe reached out to Federal Cartridge in hopes of creating an auto pistol round that could do the same, and the .357 SIG was born. Resembling a necked-down .40 S&W (though the construction is actually more complicated than that), the result was a jacketed hollow point that weighing 125 grains and actually delivering 1,350 to 1,400 fps.

Among the premium loads, the 125-grain Speer Gold Dot is by far the most street-proven .357 SIG round. It has long been used by Richmond (VA) Police, Virginia State Police, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. It has amassed an awesome reputation along the way for tactical penetration and for what is colloquially called stopping power. It also has an excellent reputation for accuracy.

All that being said, Mr. Wolf declares October, .357 Sig Month.  Dont leave home without it!

Wolf Day in the Wild Featuring the Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Carbine

The She Wolf is an active member of A Girl and a Gun club in north Texas. Today a group of them scheduled an outing that featured shooting fully automatic firearms including an Uzi, AR-14, AK-47 and other activities on private land.

The girls needed a couple of guys to fill the group and the Mrs didnt have to ask me twice! I brought along my early birthday present, a new Ruger Mini-14 Ranch carbine.

Back in the day, I regularly shot and qualified with the Uzi and other fully automatic firearms. To be honest, Im not a huge fan of full autos, because it doesnt matter how many rounds you put down range if you cant put them on target.  Full auto shooting is about the least effective way I know to put rounds on target.

A good time was had by all, especially the Wolf who was able to separate himself from the Girls with Guns for most of the day.  I was able to free style with my my semi-auto Rugers, the Mini 14, 10/22 TD and SR40C.  Weve shot many thousand rounds over the past 30+ years but I cant remember ever having more fun shooting than I did today. The Wolf was able to shoot moving targets, multi-targets, exploding targets and hundreds of rounds of ammo in a secluded area, miles from civilization.  I was even able to practice drawing from the holster and rapid fire, something that cant be done at my local range.

Im too tired to go into a full review, so Im posting a Hickok45 YouTube video on his experience with the Mini 14.  Ill post more on mine later. Suffice it to say that I cant remember ever having more fun with a birthday present.  Cant tell you how much I enjoyed shooting the Mini-14 today.  I was able to put rounds on target at 300 yards like I do at 30 feet with my handguns.

If youre looking for a traditional looking carbine that shoots like an AR-15, this may be your gun. You can pick one up for about half the price of a new AR.
